FY 1908/1909 Army Appropriation Bill

General Crozier states that the Army has 400,000 Krag Jorgensens in 1908 and 58,000,000 rounds for them. He is asking for no more, but the Krag may have to be pushed into service if war was to come. He states that at that time the Army had 331,000 Springfields (1903's). He wanted to take that number...

Re: Krag Better Than M16?

Note Paul had some fast reloading with a clip. More shots could have been sent down range in a given time, but Paul was going for accuracy and a good score. I believe that the English P14 was being designed to shoot a .276 cartridge, also. But WWI broke out and they dropped and stayed with the .303 ...

Re: Krag Better Than M16?

Paul, I know you have posted some videos. Perhaps you can post them on this string so some newer members can see the surprising rapidity to shoot and reload the Krag. The article in the link posted took me by surprise on the argument for the Krag. I did not previously think of comparing a Krag to an...

Re: Krag Better Than M16?

OK, I've had a few days to think about it. As some may have figured out, I changed my original post as I thought it to be of no great interest. But...I have changed my mind. I have mostly done research on the Krag based more on the history, including attitudes to its existence, trying to find the st...

Re: Would You Accept the Krag In 1892?

Lt. General Miles was the Army leader prior to the Spanish-American War. He was totally against the Krag-Jorgensen design, even trying to shut down the manufacture of it in favor of the Lee straight-pull just three days before the beginning of that war. He also wanted to obtain the Winchester Model ...
