I have m1898 Springfield krag sn#415626- stock is in good original condition. However, the forend was shortened many years ago exactly 15/16 of an inch to accommodate a longer bayonet grip handle. Were these rifles modified by soldiers to hold different bayonets? Any recommendations? Please help - t...
