Re: 1943 Inland M1 Carbine

Very nice. One of my M1 carbines is a 4-43 Inland. Got it a couple of years before carbine prices went even crazier after the MidwayUSA sale. It was listed as having no import marks, price firm, non-negotiable, but the minute I got it in my hands and saw the silvery park and serial in front of the r...

Re: Ongoing Auction

I am a TOTAL newbie at auctions, and just assume I will be raped with extra charges for this and that My rule of thumb is to add 1/3 of the hammer price to itself to get my actual cost. I.e. if I win something for $3000, add another grand to the total. One key is to always try to bid on the auction...

Re: Bad Auction Carbine

As another example, Simpson's has a 96 carbine, specifically listed as having the correct rear sight, which of course proved on close examination of one photo to be a 96R sight. https://simpsonltd.com/springfield-m1896-krag-carbine-c50524/ Regarding auctions, I think the price 'estimates' are set wi...

Re: Lewis And Grant Auction

Whoever got the 1870 carbines, I thought, did pretty well. The thing I was close to bidding on was the rod bayonet 1903. I suspect that was a pretty good deal as well but my knowledge was limited enough that I: 1. Wasn’t sure exactly how much of a rabbit hole I would’ve been getting into as a restor...

Re: Board of Ordance and Fortifications Rifle ????

A new thread with pictures and available info on the Peck collection would be informative Agreed! Also, I imagine many here are already aware that a goodly number of the Peck collection are featured in Ball’s atlas “Springfield Armory Shoulder Weapons 1795-1968” (but not, incidentally, including th...

Re: Show me a nice stock Cartouche

Knute: I am not sure but i think the "blackened" appearance of our cartrouche's might be from years of oxcidation of the linseed oil finish. It shows up well in the open pores on the stock in both of our pic's. That is something that is hard to fake. Agreed - my understanding of the black...

Re: Show me a nice stock Cartouche

Here’s my 1896 rifle. .012BA983-ACDD-492E-A213-52557476B1AC.jpeg I fear I harbor some doubts about the legitimacy of this cartouche. The top of the 8 and the curves of the tails of the 6 and 9 appear off to me, and the border seems overly thick. I would welcome any correction if I am wrong; I'm alw...
