Thank you, all, for your help. The Krag stock is a M1898. It has the squared cut out for the bolt not the rounded as found on 1892 to 1986 Krags. Yes the Krag stock has fillers on the right side.

Strange Krag and M1903 Stock Modifications
Strange M1903 and krag stocks. I came across the M1903 stock about 5 years ago. Thinking that someone made the modification to the stock for some sort of attachment. With you being in Canada, you will need to look for the wood there. Shipping US Military items to Canada is forbidden. You may not have any issues but the sender will if US Customs catches the shipment.

The rear sight screw is broken. If the sight is tight just leave it until you can locate another. As others said a straight 1901 rifle hand guard would bee fine.

Just look at the metal fence at Grants farm in St. Louis. The complete fence is made up of musket and rifle barrels from the Civil war and barreled receivers

Unfortunately it has been drilled and tapped and restoring it back to is original condition will cost and not be worth it. But if someone has a connection to the history it would be a good buy.
