Re: Light loads
8-12 grains or Unique is easy enough , produces 13-1400 fps and gives very good accuracy in my Krags. You may get all kinds of suggestions, but a pinch of Unique allows you to quit looking very soon with good results obtained.

Re: Interesting Krag Ammo Reloading Ad 1900 era
Cat Man's 308274 is actually a 308284. The 308274 is plain base while 284 has a gas check.
I've got a 308274 Ideal mold ans shoot the bullets some. I've got five shot 100 yard groups under an inch at 1,400 fps. The 308284 will do just as well in my five Krags

Re: Front clamp loose
Fill the void with a strip of leather. It works on one of my Krags.

Re: Cast bullet question
I have four Krag sporters and spend most of my range time with them shooting cast bullets exclusively. I have had my best results with the old traditional Ideal numbers 308284, 311274,311299 and 311290. I have shot a fair number of one inch, iron sighted, five shot groups at a hundred yards, and ver...

Removing Krag front sight blade
I have the need to replace a Lyman front sight blade pinned into the arsenal block. Are these pins tapered, or do they drive out either way? I have an S&S replica to replace it with. I shoot better groups without a bead.

Re: SRS check on a 98 Krag
Thanks for the help. Your explanation of the lack of stock markings seems to match my speculation about them. But if I had only one trip in a time machine, I would pick a different destination than the new stocking of this most recent Krag.

SRS check on a 98 Krag
Recently bought a really nice Krag '98 cut down to convert to a cast bullet target rifle. It is a Model 1898 and bears the SN 174195. The number 195 in small letters appears on the underside of the barrel adjacent to the receiver. The stock is like new, but strangely has no cartouche or any evidence...

Re: 1899 bolt inspectors mark
Thanks for responding. I suppose the presence of two other Krags with three stapings on the back of the bolt rules out something out of the ordinary. Tonight I put a glass on the barrel and found one filled sight screw hole in the barrel. One needed a glass to see it. If there is another one, I can'...

1899 bolt inspectors mark
I recently bought a Krag sporter that I think may have makers marks mixed with arsenal marks on the backside of the bolt handle. My other two Krags have but one inspector's mark at this location, but this new 1899 has three. I suspect the small "x" is the inspector's stamp, but I am puzzle...
