Model 1884 Trapdoor Carbine

<r>Hi All,<br />I recently acquired this trapdoor carbine from my Uncle. It's a Model 1884 and I was pleased to add an authentic trapdoor carbine to my collection. It was missing the saddle ring. The front sight blade and rear sight slider were broken. I replaced all of those parts with reproduction...

Re: New Krag Owner Looking for Help Identifying 1898

<r>Rnelson,<br /><br />You have a nice, handy hunting or plinking rifle there. Yours is similar to one I have. Since your magazine cut-off is missing already, you might look for a Redfield #102K rear peep sight that attaches to the cut-off hole in the receiver and also to the side plate using a long...

Re: 1898 Krag find - Italian Walnut

Unfortunately, there was nothing in the butt trap. Interesting, I guess I never associated Krags with WWI. It would be nice to know the meaning of the "C" stamp on the stock, if any.

1898 Krag find - Italian Walnut

Yesterday I stopped by one of my favorite pawn shops to see if they had anything new since my last visit. I've become kind of a regular there and the clerk I know came out and showed me a couple rifles I hadn't seen before. The clerk mentioned that he had more to come out, as soon as they had more r...

Re: My Grandfather with his Krag

<r>Last weekend I found another picture of Grandpa and his Krag. On the back of this faded photo was written "Me trying to shoot left handed". I'm not sure why he was doing that, maybe just as a challenge. Sure wish I could have been there with him.<br /><IMG src="https://kragcollectorsass...

Re: My Grandfather with his Krag

Thanks Bob! I guess I was a little off on my estimate. So this picture would have been post WWII, maybe late 40's to early 50's. My Father was a boy at the time, and wouldn't join in the hunt for a few more years. This picture would have been taken in Minnesota, probably north of Minneapolis. Notice...

My Grandfather with his Krag

<r>I wanted to share this old picture I found of my grandfather and his brother after a successful deer hunt. My grandpa is on the left with the Krag. There are so many good things in this picture - plaid wool hunting clothes, iron sights, the deer tied to the hood of the car. Those were the good 'o...

Re: Ammo Question 7.62 X 58

A picture would help. Especially if it's of the cartridge, not the box. Coincidentally, 7.62x58R would be the proper metric designation for the 30-40 Krag. Just like 7.62x63 is metric for the 30-06. Are the cartridges rimmed?

Re: Krag accessories

Thanks for posting this. Nice to see what to look out for in the repro. So far I've found an original rod in the butt of one rifle, and an oiler in another. Still hoping to stumble on a muzzle cover in someone's "junk parts" box at the next gunshow. I can't get myself to pay the current &q...
