Re: AA 2520 Powder

QuickLOAD, a moderately-costly software suite, provides estimates of interior ballistic performance based on its developer's interpretation of several critical factors. It produces estimates, not tested load data. Caution is necessary in applying these estimates to loading actual cartridges for firi...

Re: AA 2520 Powder

. . . I will move down to 180 gr Hornady RN Interlock bullets, using 25 grs of AA 2520. If results are OK, I will increase the powder by half a grain until extraction becomes stiff and/or primers show signs of bulging. . . That's a significant undercharge - seldom a great idea with dense spherical ...

Smith and Smithy (unsolicited English lesson)

Just saw another post using "smithy" as a familiar/diminutive term for a gunsmith. This hurts my brain because the word actually means something different - a place, not a person. (Not as bad as toddler nicknames like "Winnie" and "Remmie", but still dismaying. Thank Od...

Do you perhaps intend groove diameter?

Standard in most brands. Vents excess sizing lube.

Re: Krag bolt interchangeability

Parashooter, with that logic if you have 300 savage dies you can just forget about having 308, 30-06, 30-40, dies as you don't need em. . . There are a couple of flaws in extrapolating that the technique useful for .30-40 would apply equally to .308 Win. or .30-06. 1. .30-40 operates at a working p...

Re: Krag bolt interchangeability

OMG, if you have .300 Savage dies all you need do is run your Graf cases into one just far enough to push the shoulders back for easy chambering! Think of all the words, pixels, postage, grinding, and agony that could have been avoided. :o

Re: Krag bolt interchangeability

. . . I wonder if there is more or less case capacity when the shoulder is set back proper, It may not even be enough for concern. . . It's useful to understand that case capacity properly reflects the internal volume of the case after initial firing pressure has formed it to the chamber (somewhere...

Re: Krag bolt interchangeability

Parashooter, Are you saying that if these were just forced closed with the bolt the process of rearranging the shoulder will make subsequent chambering easy? Trying to envision what would happen while fire forming the shoulder is tough for me. I see 3 possibilities. I could get better, worse or sta...

Re: Krag bolt interchangeability

For a handloader, the simplest solution to this kind of minor shoulder interference is just to use a bit more muscle to close the bolt when chambering the "tight" cartridge. On firing, the case will acquire the dimensions of the chamber (AKA "fire-form") and, thanks to the natur...
