At this point it seems an obstruction is less likely than the .303 cases not being sized enough to push the shoulder aft enough for the Krag chamber. Neck sizing die won't do that job, of course. I have suggested light French polish to emulate handling sheen when matching condition, NOT for finishing an entire military rifle. Raw linseed is the authentic overall finish for US rifles of the period.

1917 ejectors are prone to breakage. Lots of folks confuse ejector with extractor.

This page from Hatcher's Notebook may be helpful to understand the US 1917's barrel dimensions, which are not the same as British .303's and are actually a bit "tighter" than those of the Krag and M1903.
