Re: 1895 US Springfield Krag Bolt Action Cavalry Carbine ROUGH RIDERS SN *RARE*
It has arrived! I have three days to look it over before sale is finale. Anything specific I should look for besides what I’ve seen in the pics on the post? There are several details to check, but I don't have a full range of the changes as related to actual serial numbers. A couple of things you m...

Re: Model 1898 Krag Rifle Documented in SRS Just Sold at Auction
I think this is at least the third documented rifle from the 3rd Tennessee that we have seen on the forum. I would be surprised that the stock would have been changed in 1902 while the correct 1896 rear sight and handguards were kept. But then by 1902 I suppose any serviceable parts arriving at Spri...

Re: where did they go?
Five or so years ago, i read a diary/memoir of an Marine Ordnance officer who served on Guadalcanal while the fighting was still going on. A few of his pages discussed the weapons that were captured from the Japanese and some of those were, probably, themselves captured by the Japanese after the Sin...

Re: 1896 carbine...o the irony
"But, to my eyes, I don’t think this looks exactly like the thin-wristed stocks on the earliest carbines. That’s the main question I have - if this one is late enough (or the receiver just knocked about long enough before being selected) for the later thicker wrist stocks." I have a carbin...

Re: Bench rest shoulder - ouch!
Just a thought, but if you were actually using a support for the barrel and the barrel alone was in contact with the support, try moving the support to a position below the stock so that only the wood is touching the support.

Re: 1892 cleaning rod thread pitch
As Dick says, check Brophy. Page 212. Drawings for both the first and second types of rods. I didn't see the third type (3 piece) with a quick search, but perhaps you can measure the threads with enough accuracy to compare with the one piece rods. The measurements for the two single piece rod thread...

Re: 1898C serials, and the current state of computing
I haven't yet converted my Operating System to Catalina, which is what I'm guessing is on your new Mac, so I may be on the wrong track here. But one of the things I am looking into is the need to convert my old files that were created on my 2011 Mac and my current, 2018 Mac to run on the new Catalin...

Re: New member with questions about a 1899C
Your carbine number is not listed in Mallory's book, but that's not<br />surprising since most Krag numbers are not. There might be some other people here who have access to more complete SRS (Springfield Research Service) numbers and i am sure you will hear from them. The 1901 rear sight is commonl...
