Re: 1916 Norwegian Krag

You will likely get a variety of opinions. Mine is that a little of Murphy's oil soap diluted in warm water and aparingly applied with a sponge will remove most of the surface grime without compromising the finish. I then apply a little warm flax seed oil and rub into the stock with the palm of my h...

Re: 1916 Norwegian Krag

Soaking the bore with Kroil, Hoppes, Butches' or other solvents and periodic scrubs with a bronze brush will get alot of the crud out. Firing and cleaning, firing and cleaning will often yield amazing results. Best of luck and give us a report!

Re: 1901 Rear Sight - Help

When my 1902 rear site arrived it was so gunked up that I could not turn the windage knob. After much soaking, blasting with carb cleaner and such, it is still sticky and I need to find a punch small enough to knock out the pin holding the windage knob to the screw.

Re: Easy bolt check

The joy of having just one .308 and one 30/40 lies in having to neck size only. I've yet to separate a case. Neck sizing and decapping is done with a Lee collet die; that's all. Simplicity.

Re: What do I have? 30-40 krag

As a handloader, get some 180-210 grain cast boolits; round or spire. The 311299 round nose, or 311334 spire point, both shoot great over 16 gr of 2400 or 20 gr of 5744. Other shooters have good cast shooting data as well. You will be surprised at how much fun and how well these group.

Re: Krag Sight adjust

My 1896 was purchased for it's gorgeous bore, and it shoots just as well. However, holding off the black at 8 o'clock doesn't make it for competitive cast boolit match shooting. I found a 1902 rear sight, adjustable for windage, and now my "alibi" is gone - it's up to my old eyes now :'(
