Re: Interesting Powder Can

Re: Rust and Nitre Bluing. Mauser 1914 restoration.

<r>Rust bluing is fairly easy. I heat the parts to 200 degrees and apply a light coat of the rust bluing solution. Once the parts have a light coat of rust, they are boiled in distilled water, which converts the red rust to magnetite, which had a blue/ black color.<br /><br />Pictures 1 - 3 are the ...

Rust and Nitre Bluing. Mauser 1914 restoration.

<r>I do a fair amount of firearms restoration as sort of a 'side job'. If it is a true collector grade, I limit my restoration to stopping any active deterioration, and applying the correct finish to any wood components.<br /><br />That said, when working with a shooter grade gun, I really do enjoy ...

Re: How to restore the stock finish or look ?

<r>I clean my oil finished wood stocks with a oil scrub.<br /><br />I cut raw linseed oil with turpentine to a 20%/80% mixture, then scrub the wood with a very fine scotch-brite pad. Remember, you are trying to lift the dirt and grime out of the grain, while not removing any wood in the process. <br...

Re: Business Trip: Springfield MA.

If you go in with numerous empty gun cases, do you think they'll notice if they are filled when you leave?

Maybe I could distract them by pointing and shouting "look, an unregistered assault weapon" and then running as they searched for it.
