Re: Krag bolt and chamber ramblings - sample of 10
Had two sporters and there was enough difference in chambers that brass from one would not come close to chambering in the other. Fortunately had both R-P and Win brass so dedicated each make to one to keep it simple.

Re: Krag ID help
Slugging the bore and doing a chamber cast will resolve any caliber change questions. Not sure how much difference in pressure between the original 6.5 versus 7mm Mauser but modern 7mm ammo may be a bit hotter than the action was designed for. If an issue the 7mm is easy to reload and brass and bull...

Re: 1898 Feed Issue
What brass are you using, the original round had a beveled rim that would allow the round above it in the magazine to slide past. A flat rim can get caught and the round pushed forward before the round being stripped from the magazine goes over it. Experimented with using 303 Brit as a back-up for b...

Re: How to restore the stock finish or look ?
Clean it first, have found mineral spirits and cheese cloth or the gray scotch brite pads work well for this. Apply the MS and rub GENTLY on a small area and wipe off with paper towels. Dirt and grime are not additives to any finish I know of. Once satisfied it is clean, or as clean as it will get, ...

Re: Organic gas check?
Believe I read in an old Gun Digest article on the Krag that the CoW loads worked but it was found they raised pressures enough that it stopped being used. Thought I had saved the article but either I didn't or anyway can't find it.

Re: 30-40 Krag Reloading Dies
I use a Lyman die set I got off E-bay cheap. These were the old long discontinued Precision Alignment dies with a sliding collet in the seater. Got them because they align the bullet as it starts into the case and this is important to me as I only shoot cast. Any set of dies will work fine, just rem...

Re: Ammo 29 & 30
Have read somewhere that pushing a new 30 cal brush from the chamber past the case and then pulling back will sometime remove the ruptured case. Never tried it myself so no guarantees.

Re: Western 29 brass
If 1929 vintage suggest you anneal, age embrittlement is likely on brass of that old.

Re: Annealing
I anneal with a propane torch and an electric drill. Get a set of the adapters that go in the drill and are sized to take sockets. You'll need a 9/16 socket (deep well works better) to fit the Krag rim. Fire up your torch and adjust the blue inner flame to about 1- 1/12 inches and secure it so it do...

Re: Which brass is better Hornady or Reminton
No preferance, have Win and Graf. Used the Graf to form 30/40AI, and Win in an old sporter I had. The Win has had a lot of loadings and some I tried to reform for the AI split at the neck/shoulder junction. Found it best to anneal before forming. Some of the standard brass has been reloaded 8-10 tim...
