Re: krag "sporters"
I'm in general agreement with your sentiments. We need to remember that as stinson stated, Krags were ridiculously cheap in the "teens" and 20s, just like '03s and M1917s were in the 50s and 60s. Next to no one collected them; they were seen as a "work gun". Decent sporting rifle...

...Keeping in mind there are numerous people in positions of authority who would like to carry out what is happen in Norway, the UK and Australia a LOT further here.
I agree with the sentiment - read Nord's post and vote with it in mind! Tell your hunting and shooting friends, too!

Re: 1898 US Krag Rifle Original Finish
I would suggest cutting the BLO with a little mineral spirits. Also, rub off the excess with a soft cloth. It will take several coats but the results will be worth it.

Re: Gun SSN question
Some people feel it would be revealing too much information over a "public" forum. Others say that someone could claim the rifle was "stolen".

Opinions are pretty divided on the wisdom (or non-wisdom) of this practice. I don't have a problem with someone putting in a coupl...

Re: reasonable prices on...
Krag bayonets seem to be pretty plentiful. I suggest "lurking" on eBay for a while - just search under "Krag Bayonet". Krag bayonets and scabbards seem to sell in the $80-100 range on eBay. Of course date and quality play a BIG part - the earlier the bayonet the higher the price....

Re: 1898 Krag
Is this a rifle you have or are looking at? It depends on a NUMBER of factors - is it a typical cut-down rifle with commercial sights? If so, probably in the $200-300 range. If an DCM carbine, maybe quite a bit more.

Although I'm pretty new to Krags, I do know you'd have to provide a lot more...
