Re: Mystery 'bolt mounted' peep-sight sells

Seems to me this was the second time that Krag went up on GB. I remember seeing that sight a few months ago so it was either that gun or another one with a similar sight. Can anyone identify the sight? I certainly can't.

Re: 1901 handguard with 1902 sight?

These guns have been in civilian hands for so long that the odds of a private owner changing out the hand guards probably outstrip those of an arsonal having done it.

Re: Question on sights!

Redfield made a Sourdough site that fit the Krag front post. I used to have one. Not ony are they thicker but have a brass insert at the top. It's a square post sight. You might be ablto kake one out of a Sourdough for a 03 - they turn up more often.

Re: Criterion Barrels

I'm not using the rear sight holes on my Criterion barrel but I believe they are 8x32 which are not original but more readily available which may be why they went with it.

Thanks!

Re: Criterion Barrels

To address your speculation butlersrangers, yes I am trying to make this carbine look as spot on and as new as possible. My carbine and rife projects both started from stripped receivers and proceeded with my scouring the landscape for parts that matched their respective finishes and degrees of wear...

Re: Range Outing for 1896 carbine wanna be

Nice butI wouldn't call that a "wanna be carbine." I'd call it the classic american deer rifle. Many a hunter who couldn't afford a Model 30 Remington, Savage 1920 and Model 54 Winchester got the job done with a rifle just like that. And in some ways, I think those guns hold a more honored...
