Re: Refinishing a Sporterized Krag Stock
Here are some photos of the stock. There seems to be several raised letters, I imagine they were stamps that raised as the compressed wood expanded, perhaps due to finish added to the stock.

Refinishing a Sporterized Krag Stock
The stock on my model 1898 Krag which has been sporterized sometime probably in the 30's is looking very dark. I'd like to clean off the old finish and rejuvenate it a bit. There is also a crack forming that I may need to do something about too. What would you recommend for removing the old finish? ...

Re: best place to get a new barrel and get it installed???
One question you have can be answered by slugging the barrel. I did this by taking a 00 buck shot and tapping it into the muzzle and the pushing out with a dowel. Then measure across the lands of the slug, which corresponds with the grooves of the barrel. By the sound of it, your barrel is probably ...

Re: Where can I find ammo for my 30-40 Krag
You can usually find some at gun shows, online sources and sometimes sitting on the shelf at places like Cabelas. It's only produced once a year, typically before deer season. When brass by itself is produced, you'll usually see a comment on here so you can buy before its all sold out. Ammoseek is a...

Re: 1898 Sporter Serial# 456713
Is it possible the person who did the blueing disassembled it and perhaps did not reassemble it correctly? I just can't imagine a competent gunsmith installing a new barrel and not checking fit and function.

Re: Electrolysis for rust removal, you opinion?
My recent reading on electrolysis suggests that the bubbles given off by the anode is oxygen with hydrogen being given off by the cathode. If this is correct, hydrogen embrittlement may be less of a concern.

Re: Electrolysis for rust removal, you opinion?
Yes, easy to make a mistake. But in today's world of instant information, it was easy.

Bought some Arm & Hammer Laundry Booster and Wash Soda (Sodium Carbonate) at wally world. That and a 2 amp battery charger and a length of cold rolled steel and some copper wire is all that's needed...

Electrolysis for rust removal, you opinion?
I recently began a restoration of a 1912 Rem. model 12a 22LR. The overall condition was good, but the bore was badly rusted. After an overnight soak with traditional rust removal products and many strokes with a bronze brush, the rust remained.

So I set up an electrolysis tank using a ba...
