Brownells has Hornady 220 grain round nose .30caliber bullets in stock. I just ordered 200.

download/file.php?mode=view&id=3655 This old H&R revolver was coated with rust to the point that the lettering on the barrel was illegible. Boiling removed most of the rust and left the remaining finish intact, along with the pitting.

Update: I ran a 400 grit Flex Hone into the chamber and all but a trace of the marks disappeared. I will finish it off with an 800 grit.

I did notice that the firing pin marks were slightly off-center on the primers but didn’t think much about it. Looks like this rifle will be a “safe queen” until I can replace the barrel.

Chambering and extracting a round doesn’t leave any visible marks. From center of rear sight screw hole to front of receiver is approximately 3.3 inches.

Bolt face to muzzle measures exactly 30 inches.

Rough chamber

I test-fired my 1898 rifle for the first time today. All shots hit close to point of aim and all brass extracted normally. The necks of all five cases show some unusual marks, but they re-sized without trouble. Is this something to worry about ? The rifle was badly neglected when I got it but it cle...

Thanks for the info. This is the only Krag I’ve gotten my hands on so I didn’t know about the proof mark. You’re probably right about the stock being refinished; the fore end was cut off at the rear band when it was sporterized many years ago.
