The black is the leather dye. Insides were not dyed and remain brown. Maybe this helps! I still have to get mine out and check it with Dick's info.

This is a great accoutrement to have with your Springfield Trap Door and Krag rifles. These McKeever cartridge boxes were made originally for the 45/70 cartridges for the Trap Doors and used for the .30-40 Krag ammunition. If it is as nice as it looks with no hidden problems, I'd say $1300-1400 would be a nice fair price for this Krag set. You could price it at $1500 and consider offers. How much do you have in it all? Good luck.
