Re: Stock refinishing

<r>Funny thing is my s/n is 388,396. But the barrel is not correct. It was cut down and I will be reinstalling a 1903 front sight when finished. Here is a shot<br /><br />Here is a quick pic. <IMG src="https://kragcollectorsassociation.org/kca/phpBB3/images/yabbfiles/Attachments/IMG_5096.jpg"><s>[im...

Re: Stock refinishing

Specifically on my '98 rifle the stock end is 3.15" from the barrel end. With the action in the stock I measured back to that point, leaving a little extra to take off when finishing and cut it there.

FYI the barrel end will not accept a bayonet, :(.. Almost but not quite.

Re: Stock refinishing

To answer Mr. Hosmer's questions, and share this sorted tale with the group:<br /><br />A little over a year ago I shared some pictures of a sporterized '98 with a carved stock. I bought it for $400 strictly because it had a '96 carbine rear sight. At that time the group pointed out that the barrel ...

Stock refinishing

I am getting close on my BoOF tribute rifle.<br /><br />Question for all you woodworking guru's out there. How far should I take the sanding before finishing? 220?, 600? 0000 steel wool?<br /><br />Also I would appreciate any thoughts on stain/oil process to get it to look close to the rest of my co...

You don't know how good you have it..

I arrived at the Reno gun show yesterday, Same show I always go to except this time they have big banners telling patrons that guns will not be allowed into the hotel property! WTH? It's a gun show! The hotel is so paranoid after the Las Vegas attack that they will only allow vendors to bring in gun...

Re: SRS help

My first Krag had the opposite set-up.

A 1901 sight installed backwards in a 1902 hand guard. I replaced the sight as the hand guard finish matches the stock.

I will be installing the 1901 sight in my (hopefully) soon to be completed BoOF tribute rifle.

Re: SRS check request. 1894 S/N 5838

Thanks.

What made me even think about it was that the barrel was full length. The stock had been thinned and shortened to around carbine length. Not a good look in my opinion.

SRS check request. 1894 S/N 5838

Title says it all.

Came across an unshortened sporter in my travels. Not really looking for a project, but if it is a hit maybe I'll make them an offer.

Thanks in advance.

Re: A Question about helping people

I think there are two kinds of posts along these lines.<br /><br />-People who are genuinely trying to point out an error or correct misinformation.<br />-People who like to correct others "on account of they are so smart."<br /><br />Sometime I think the initial posters jump to the latter...

Re: Fred C. Ness & Krag sporters

to answer reincarnated's question. I have seen a 45-70.<br /><br />I posted a few years back about a 45-70 single shot sporter I saw at a gun shop in Phoenix. It had a plate at the top of the magazine welded or brazed to help channel the round into the chamber. It was fairly nicely done $800 asking....
