Re: OOPS
Hello Paul, Wishing you much success at the Camp Perry competitions! I can't count the times I have "missed a step" in the process getting something done. The worst one occurred 50 years ago when, without a lot of 'know how', I attempted a tune-job on my Ford station wagon that had a big T...

Re: Hand Guard for Model 1899 Carbibe
Many Thanks to Whig and Butlersrangers for their help and advice on how to find a suitable handguard for my "Naked" 1899 Carbine. The local gunsmith who told me that my carbine was missing the handguard, told me he has spotted one for me. It is from a 'beat-up' 1901 rifle that someone trie...

Re: Gunshow corelokt
RickyG, If you are a reloader, you will have 100 'once fired' brass. You should be able to minimally get 15 reloads from each brass, amounting to 1,500 reloaded rounds. With bullets, primers, and powder you ought to be able to amortize your cost down to $1.50 per reloaded round from the $3.75 per ro...

Hand Guard for Model 1899 Carbibe
Hello All, Last week, the bolt on my 1899 carbine locked-up in the closed position when I 'dry-fired' it after cleaning it. I took the carbine to my local gunsmith who is quite good with Krags and he stripped down the bolt and gave it a good cleaning. The carbine is now running smooth again. He clas...

Re: Clean Sized Brass After Firing
In my post of earlier today on using Mr. Steinmayer's method for neck sizing, I mistakenly referred to the caliber as .30-30 instead of .30-40 Krag. Sorry for the confusion.

Clean Sized Brass After Firing
Last Fall, using Paul Steinmayer's .30-30 Krag neck sizing method ( screw in the F/L neck sizing die until it touches the shell holder, and then back it off one full turn) I neck sized 50 Hornady cases. A few days ago, I fired off 30 of those reloads and the results were nice: at 75 yards with 5 rou...

Whig & Butlerangers,
Thanks for your comments and input. Good catch on the front sight, I mis-spoke myself; the front sight I had installed was taller than the one that came with the rifle.

Re: 1899 Krag and young buck
Hello Mark, I'm the 'olpeddler" from central Massachusetts. I've been a Krag owner and member of this forum for 4 years. Mine is a model 1899 carbine. It is interesting that I have seen very little mention of the 1899 carbine on the forum. Maybe that's because out of the 350,000 Krags made at t...

Re: Hornady 30-40 at Midway right now!
I have two brand new, still unopened, 50 round bags of Winchester .30-40 brass that I picked up from Precision Reloading about 3 years ago. Additionally, I have approx. 75 rounds of Hornady brass I bought when I acquired my Krag in 2019. They have been reloaded 6 - 8 times. I use Paul Steinmayer's m...

Re: Hornady 30-40 at Midway right now!
$2.50 a round for factory loaded ammo is pretty steep. However, costs for reloading . 30-40 ammo has also significantly increased since the pre-Covid days 0f 2019. I am not an accountant, but my calculations indicate it now costs me $1.42 per round to reload .30-40 versus $.81 in 2019 when I acquire...
