Spike, can't help about the 1901c rear sight. You can get an appropriate repro handguard from S and S Firearms in New York, (www.ssfirearms.com). My S and S repro 1901c handguard fit well and looked good.
You can check on gunbrokers and e-bay and maybe get lucky.

Re: Hand me down Krag
The 1899 Carbine was fitted with a number of rear sights and each required a particular handguard. Check the Photo section on this site and identify your rear sight. It could have been an 1896c, a 1901c or a 1902c and the handguards as varied. I have no knowledge of the 1896c sight and handguard. Th...

Re: Long time....
Sorry to hear of your loss: I lost my mother (90yrs old) in mid April)
If per chance you have a carbine barrel with front sight, I would be interested. My life would further be complete with a handguard for the 1901 carbine sight.

Re: replacement barrel
You will find 30 inch barrels on e-bay from time to time, rear sights also. Go to www.ebay.com and type in krag in the search bar.<br>The rear sight has to match the hand guard. Sand S Firearms (ssfirearms.com) is a good source for reproduction parts and some original parts. The photo section of thi...

Re: First Krag...New to everything related
You asked as to value. What I have seen is from @350.00 to $1000.00 for a 98, perhaps a few hundred more. It depends upon the condition of the rifle. The Photo section of this forum has a photo of a 98 krag. A 100+ year old gun should not be shiny blue as in a recent reblueing job, the stock should ...

Re: looking for this part
Frank, Perhaps you atttached a photo that I can't find. However, you mentioned a stap swivel and than mentioned a 1899 Carbine. The '99 carbine does not have a strap swivel, nor does it have a sling. The '99 carbine has a clean butt with no sling swivel and a handguard band with no sling swivel. The...

pendRe: Why the Krag?
I read somewhere that at the time, in the early 1890s, a prime concern of the army was excessive ammunition expenditure during battle, and the magazine cutoff was of prime importance. Since ammunition was mostly transported in horse drawn wagons through the American West, logistics was and still is ...

I think I paid $65.oo for a Barrel Band, and $200.00 for a repro stock.

Re: Kraig Carbine
I also have a Krag Carbine. The rear sight should be a carbine type, the barrel should be 22", the stock should have a front barrel band held on with a spring clip and there should not be a sling swivel at the butt end. Go the the photo section of this site and check out the carbine pictures as...
