Re: 28" barreled Krag

What throws me is that the stock is proportionally te same as with a standard Krag. It all looks to have been done around the same time which would have been long ago. The handguard looks to be a bit older but not a lot.

The bluing on the muzzle also appears to be of an age as the rest of...

Re: 28" barreled Krag

Well, I finally got back to that shop to look at this rifle. I was in a hurry to get on the road and left my camera (and change of clothes) sitting on the counter at home. I tried to use the camera on my cell phone but the pictures are terrible.

It has a 27" barrel which appears to ...

Re: 28" barreled Krag

Thanks, most have said what I am thinking, it is not a variant. It definitely is only a couple inches shorter than the 30" rifle barrel and not nearly as much as 4".

I guess my main thought was it might be a Scandinavian gun but I could not tell that by looking at the belly as ...

Re: 28" barreled Krag

Thanks again.

I believe all this talk has me thinking of a road trip. The weather is not too nice out but not bad enough to keep me off the road. There are enough oddities to tip me over the edge on this. I can give myself reason to be 20 minutes away which is close enough for me. I'll s...

Re: 28" barreled Krag

Thanks.

It is not one rifle being propped up, both (actually all three) were sitting flush on the rack. The short rifle appeared to be exactly the same as the longer ones except for the length of barrel and forestock- both parts ended about 2" shorter than the other two rifles. The ...

28" barreled Krag

Today I noticed an odd Krag on the used rack behind the counter. I was unable to hold the rifle as all the counter staff seemed to be on break but from what I could see was that the rifle in question appeared to be about 2" shorter than the two Krags next to it.

I am wondering if th...

Re: New to Krags and this forum

Thanks for the advice, that is what I was looking for regarding suggestions on what to do with these guns.

Your comments and suggestion regarding the 1894 is pretty much what I was thinking in regards to "restoring" that gun and swapping out the rear sights along with finding a...

Re: New to Krags and this forum

Sorry, I got a bit long and didn't notice I ran out of room on the post. I hope to end up with a nice representative piece and one to use as a shooter. what is everyone's opinion and what other suggestions are out there? Thanks

New to Krags and this forum

Hi everyone.

I am pretty new to Krag rifles though I have had a long fascination with them, ever since my dad described deer hunting with one back in the 1950s.

I recently purchased a pair of Krags, the first one an 1894 and the other an 1896. I don't have pictures for both of...
