Re: Items to Check on a Krag for Shooting

You have to be careful with "Sergeant Peep", he is very easily 'knocked' out of the fully raised position.

Re: Items to Check on a Krag for Shooting

The m-1898 sight was developed for use with a higher velocity cartridge. This sight has a shorter base and peculiar three 'notch' eye-piece. The center notch was used for normal sighting. The outside notches served to correct for strong crosswinds. This sight was discontinued, when the 'hotter' .30-...

Re: Parkhurst carbine

Tom - How is the 'clip-guide' retained on your Parkhurst carbine, screw or dovetail?

Is the magazine 'cartridge-lip' a standard one or distinctive, as shown in Mallory's photos?

Re: Items to Check on a Krag for Shooting

'Head-Space' is the stuff of madness. For most of us Krag Shooters, it has not been a big issue. The U.S. Krag headspaces on the cartridge-rim. The rim serves as a nice gas-seal. In the event of a case-head separation, it blocks hot high-pressure gases from coming back into the action. There is some...

Re: Items to Check on a Krag for Shooting

'Curtis' - Welcome to the KCA Forum! It is always wise to ask first. When shopping for a Krag rifle, I always study the chamber, bore condition, and muzzle-crown with the 'naked-eye'. Close scrutiny should be given to the 'extractor-claw'. The hook and sides of the 'claw' should have finish and pati...

Re: Parkhurst carbine

The scant 'index', in Frank Mallory's "The Krag Rifle Story", makes it easy to miss some good content. On page 90, of the 'KRS', second edition, there is some good Parkhurst device information. Actually, Mallory showed photos of two different Parkhurst adapted Krags: One has earlier Krag f...

Re: I don't like the looks of this!

Craig at "Lock - Stock and Barrel" politely responded, by email, to my message. He admitted that they missed the flaw and are cancelling the bolt Listing. He thanked me for having a "good eye" and taking time to give them a heads-up on the bolt. (I checked eBay, later, and the li...

Re: What an odd looking Krag

William Brophy gave good detail on the model 1892 prototype carbine in his book, "The Krag Rifle". The front barrel-band has a very discrete "U", turned sideways. The rear barrel-band clamps with a screw and is retained by a cross-pin, through the stock, just like the regular Kra...
