Re: Formal attire

IMO - Too many flamingos and not enough Krags! It will never work as an ugly Christmas sweater!

Re: Grandpa's Krag

With a family heirloom, like yours, I recommend using and shooting it, as altered by your grandfather and Dad. If you want to 'dress up' your Krag a bit, a replacement side-plate costs about $20. The forearm tip could be simply plugged or added to and reshaped. The front sight-base 'dovetail' could ...

Re: Grandpa's Krag

'Sturgeon', welcome to the KCA Forum. It is very cool that you have inherited your Grandfather's Krag! As you have surmised, it has been altered from its original U.S. Military configuration. Likely, this was done to make the rifle more handy for 'hunting'. Your model 1898 Krag, serial number 139104...

Re: What to do now?

I recommend keeping both Norwegian Krags. Three rounds is hardly a test of a rifle or load's accuracy. Maybe, the rifle just doesn't 'like' the IMR-4350 load or the 140 grain match bullet! The 'long rifle' should be disassembled and checked for pressure points, binding, and warpage of the stock and ...

I can smell ...

... the G.I. bore-cleaner (and Joe), from here!

General Patton did not approve of the work of Bill Mauldin. Patton thought the 'hobo' appearance of Willy and Joe was bad for morale.

Re: The Krag in South Africa.

Thanks for the link! That is a very interesting Steyr made model 1894 Norwegian Krag, serial #70. (The text wrongly states Norwegian manufacture). This rifle is beautifully carved with the battle honors of J.F.W. Mostert, who became a very prominent Boer leader. Definitely a museum piece, with only ...

Feeling Lucky?

You would have to be ... to 'touch off' this piece of Khyber handiwork chambered in .303 British!
(A recent GunBroker auction item).

I think all the markings, including the Kabul Arsenal crest, are bogus.

You do have to admire the creativity.
