Interesting Florida Gun Shop
The A.W. Peterson Gun Shop was established in Colorado, in 1886, and later moved to Florida. They claim to be the oldest gun shop in the USA. Located on Old 441, between Mount Dora and Tavares, my wife and I were driving by it the other day, while returning from an excursion to Mount Dora. My wife s...

Re: Binge Watching
Thanks Moose nugget, neat videos!
The attached photo of my family heirloom .62 caliber rifle shows the 'grain' pattern of iron strap wound and welded around a mandrel, to create the barrel tube.
This old barrel construction explains my hesitation over ever firing this irreplaceable (to me) rifle.

Re: Binge Watching
The original musket balls, that I have examined, were notoriously undersized and rather poorly cast. Close fitting balls, that I have fired in reproduction Brown Bess and Charleville muskets, gave surprising 50 yard accuracy. At 100 yards and beyond, target strikes became quite 'open' and random. Pe...

Re: 50 round belt
I have attached a couple of photos of 1873 bayonet scabbards, that require a wire attachment, in order to be carried on a Mills Belt.

Re: 50 round belt
I believe your "U.S." buckle may be a reproduction. Original Mills buckles have the last lines of lettering almost running off the edge of the hook. Too bad someone drilled a hole through your buckle. Your belt is definitely made by Mills - Orndorf, given the end fittings. The brass wire '...

Re: 50 round belt
King carp - Photos of the belt ends and back of the buckle, (showing patent & maker's name), would be helpful. Are the cartridge loops sewn on or woven into the belt? There appear to be some 'stripes' of darker thread. This was a practice of the Hurlburt Co. and the Spalding Company, to help loc...

Re: My purchases in the last 72 hours
'03collector' - Nice acquisitions at your recent gun show.
However, unless I'm sadly mistaken, U.S. Krag rifle serial number 99543 has to be a model 1896 rifle, (not a model 1898).
Is your nice stock repaired in the bolt-handle area? It appears to lack the normal 'scalloped' relief cut?

Binge Watching
'Antenna TV' is crappy in Florida, basic cable is no better, and our 'Firestick' is very inconsistent. I've taken to watching the "Sharpe's Rifles" BBC series from the 1990s on my laptop. The episodes are on YouTube, with Spanish captions, when English is spoken, and with English captions,...
