Was WW1/WW2 type bore-cleaner still being used to clean the M60 machine gun?

I mean the pungent thick liquid stuff that was used to remove corrosive chlorate-primer salts.

Why? The smell will gag a maggot!

Hot soapy water works just as well and doesn't stench-up your work space.
Windex, with ammonia, probably works, too.

Any of these 'solvents' need to be flushed out, wiped & dried out.
Follow-up is with patches wet with deep penetrating weapons oil.

This Springfield Armory - NP Historic Site display shows a 'Parkhurst carbine', configured like Tom's, except for his 'threaded-muzzle' and stock toe escutcheon plate.

Everything seems right for a second block model 1899 carbine, built around September-October of 1900.

The biggest mystery is the threaded muzzle, Maxim silencer?
