A Note About Poyer's Book

I'll start by saying this is not a critique of the book, as I haven't read it cover to cover yet.
Every one should read the first paragraph of "Conventions" on page 23. It is basicly a dissclaimer for the use of the word Type in refrence to production changes. "This system is used...

Re: Windage adjustment with 96 sights ?

You are not missing any thing! That is the reason that the M'96 sight was replaced. With the short front sight blade there is almost no adjustment.

Re: Best rear sight for sporter 1898???

Sorry Greg this one is kind of personal prefrence. I would say that you need to decide the style that fits your needs or prefrences first. I like an aperture sight for a brush gun for quick target aquisition at shorter ranges, a buckhorn or semi buckhorn gives you a little finer sighting plus some o...

Re: Krag model variations

Hi David,
Check the left side of the reciever. The Model 1892 will have the year of production stamped there, 1894 or 1895. The Model 1896 was stamped 1896 until March 1896 after which they were stamped Model 1896. The Model 1898 is stamped Model 1898 reguardless of yera of production. The 1899 ...

Re: 96 sight on '1900 OK ?

Re: 96 sight on '1900 OK ?

Hi Eric,
The model 1898 sight had a short issue life span. It was introduced in conjunction with new 2,200 fps ammo. The cartridge was discontinued in March of 1900 and along with it the the M'98 sight. The sight was used on rifles assembled from Aug. 1899 untill that point. M'98 rifles before Au...

Re: "Historical" scope mount advice needed

If you are going to use a reload like that you will definatly have to play with the sights some, esp if they are the original ones. You might want to adjust the load some and work both end to the middle.
Happy shooting,

Re: "Historical" scope mount advice needed

I have a Weaver side mount on one of my sporters that has a similar sounding screw pattern. All I can find onit is Weaver side mount 1" I'm sure that there were a number of diffrent side mounts over the years that would work on the Krag and some of them are probably still made. I would take the...

Re: no# check

Well what you have started life as a rifle and was reworked some where down the line. Your serial number doesn't show up on the SRS list that I have. It should be a good shooter though.
