Re: Help finding correct rear sight on 1898 Krag

<r>Sure thing Whig. Its a 1895 Krag that shoots awesome. I know its not completely original but that wasn't the goal when I bought it. I bought is as it was in pretty good shape and there wouldn't be any problems with shooting it. The only thing that is wrong with it is that it is missing the magazi...

Re: Help finding correct rear sight on 1898 Krag

The bore is actually pretty good. I don't know how much my grandfather used it when he was alive but I know he used it at his ranch for predators who might have threatened his cattle. A lot of critters probably met their end there.<br /><br />My grandfather was a rancher who was brought up near the ...

Help finding correct rear sight on 1898 Krag

<r>Hello everyone,<br />I am attempting to restore my grandfathers old 1898 Krag. It is a sportified gun and has a solid single pillar front sight. It fires great and the bolt is still silky smooth. I took off the cheap scope that had been placed on this gun which it appears my grandfather drilled t...

Re: Krag restorer in Phoenix, Arizona

I appreciate all the help and advice. After reading what you guys have said, I think I am just going to keep it in the exact condition it is and just put it in a nice mount to hang on the wall and display it. I know it wouldn't win any shows, or even be fireable, but I has a lot of sentimental value...

Re: Krag restorer in Phoenix, Arizona

<r>Here are a couple of photos. I know I need a rear sight. I would also love to add the original sling. Also, I would love for this gun to shoot again and get some use out of it. And looking at the metal on the bolt, I don't know if that appears normal or if the bolt would need some work as well. I...

Krag restorer in Phoenix, Arizona

Hello all,<br />I have a 1898 Krag that was my grandfathers prior to his passing. I would guess that the gun hasn't been fired in about 20 years and is at least missing the rear sight. I am looking for a gunsmith in Arizona (Phoenix area) that is able to do a full tune-up on the gun as well as to do...

Re: Help with grand-dad's 1898 Krag

<r>Thank you all who helped. I don't have much family history on this gun except he was a farmer most of his life which I was told he always had a gun with him. Unfortunately, he has been sick for several years and don't ever remember him shooting during that time. I will definitely take this gun to...
