Re: Norwegian Krag??
"Would anyone know anything about this rifle?"<br /><br />Yes....next question.<br /><br />OK, now that's out of the way, we can tell a lot more if you post a few clear pictures and provide the first 3 digits of the serial number, number of matching parts, barrel length, bore condition, an...

Re: Safety of 6.5 X 55 Swedish ammo in Norwegian Krag?
The above information is spot on, but the fact remains that in Norway, ammunition specifically designed to be used in Norwegian Krag rifles is loaded to a maximum pressure of 40,000 psi. The stretched bolts and fractured receivers that prompted this policy often were not apparent until many years an...

Re: Model 1897 Steyr
You can contact a gentleman named Hvard in Norway. His PM/forum name is 'mussonor'. He can either find a stock for you or make one from scratch. Expect to pay something between $200 and 350 for a stock and handguard, and about $25 for hardware, and $50 for shipping.<br /><br />Uncut stocks are very ...

Re: Safety of 6.5 X 55 Swedish ammo in Norwegian Krag?
Metallurgy and design considerations aside, the recommendation in Norway is to stay on the low side of 40,000 psi in all Norwegian Krags. That's the pressure manufacturers load to in "Safe for Krag" ammo over there. That will still push a 139 gr bullet to near 2,200 to 2,300 fps in the rif...

OK. That makes the restoration job more straightforward, although not cheap. If you need parts, you can reach "Norwayspare" at: haavarbu@online.no. His name is Hvard Buhaug.

Re: Srag Stock
No. If the barrel has not been cut on your rifle and is still 29", you need the "Long Krag" stock for the M1894. They are rare. If you are just missing the forend tip and handguard, you might get away with replacing just those and hiding the splice under the band. Look at my posting o...

Re: ammo
Whoops: I think "Needanswers" is looking for information on loading for the Norwegian Krag, 6.5 X 55. I've taken to buying the cheapo Swede ammo from Samco, pulling the bullet, and dumping about 20% of the powder charge. That drops the velocity to around 2,100 fps in the 29" barrel of...

Re: 1894 Norwegian Krag has been un-sporterized
Yes, the original handguard was included. Only the tip of the stock was replaced.<br /><br />Regarding the metal: it had been polished (not well) and reblued with some light surface rust added when I received it. I had the bluing and metal work redone by McMurray Gunsmithing in Idaho. Most of the sh...
