Re: Sight Questions

The vintage equipment is so cool. I've tried the spray-on sight gray and I agree it's not as good as the carbon. My company makes activated carbon. You can't see in a storage silo if there is the slightest amount suspended in the air. I'm told carbon "absorbs" light. Don't know the science...

Re: Sight Questions

Thanks, Butlersrangers. I reread the CMP rules and they allow a width of .100" so that will be a big help. Somehow my brain was thinking that .100" was the original width. I'll probably shoot a "project" rifle that has a new Criterion barrel. Someone spent a bunch of $ on it befo...

Sight Questions

I've been trying out the adjustable sight combinations without much success. So far, I prefer the peep in the 1901 with the leaf raised. One of my Krags had the peep enlarged to .100" sometime in it's life and I like that one the best. The problem is the skinny front sight. I don't think the CM...

Re: Which powder?

I had no idea you could shoot cast lead bullets at that velocity but then I know close to zero about lead bullets. I bought a mold for my trapdoor and even cast a few bullets but have never fired the rifle. I also bought a good book about loading for the trapdoor. You've got my interest in lead bull...

Re: 200yd handloads

Paul, did you make the outside diameter of the 1902 peep larger? I can't see the 1902 peep. I tried the notch but it was too hard to find the front sight during rapid fire. I shot a 485 which wasn't good enough to place but there is room for improvement if I can get this sight thing figured out. Gon...

Re: Wider front sight?

Bill Bentz made some 1903 sights for me a few years ago. I'll contact him about a Krag sight. I've tried a few combinations. What works best for me so far is the 1901 with the skinny front sight barely showing in the notch.

Wider front sight?

I've been practicing with different sight combinations. It seems the 1902 with the notch works best for me. Just can't see the aperture. I think a wider front sight would help and the CMP rules allow up to .100". Anyone know of a source for wider front sights for the Krag? I bought some for a 1...

Re: D-Day CMP Matches at Talladega

I shot the Talledega 600 in November last year. One morning it was in the 40s with heavy rain and 30mph wind. At least there was a roof overhead. With the wind you still got soaked on the firing line. I didn't anticipate the need for rain gear. Live and learn.

Winchester Brass Good?

It seems the Winchester brass is about half the price of the Graffs or Hornady. Anybody use it?
