That is good to know. I have modern one piece rods, but; I most likely would have had another doubt if, or when, I found the 3 sections came up short. My Siamese Mauser has one short segment and the story there is the same. Soldiers would share rod sections.

what get stored in the butt stock
I got an oil from eBay that is similar in size to the M1 carbine oiler. I assume this stores inside the butt stock. There is a lot more room. I see some sellers offer a sectional cleaning rod with the same oiler. What else goes in there? The cleaning rod? My gun was made in 1902, if that matters.<br...

Re: Best Sight for Accuracy?
I am a new Krag owner with a 1902 gun and sight. I prefer the 1902 based on never having fired a shot. So; take my post with a grain of salt.

I have been shooting Grands, 1903A3 and a M1A with true rear apertures. And also several 1903's and a Trapdoor all with the 'hole' in the rear sigh...

Re: How to restore the stock finish or look ?
Big bores have always been a fascination for me. I dont have a 4, but I do have various smokeless upto 505 gibbs. I recently acquired an 8 gauge double shotgun. I also played with a not so old, 6 bore (ball gun) muzzle loader for a while.

Re: How to restore the stock finish or look ?
Thanks Butler. The stock is almost dry. I have a long honey dew list tomorrow, so; I anticipate re-assembly Sunday afternoon. I try and pay attention to what you said as I go.

Re: Original US Army 30-40 Load
I am another new Krag owner. Let me ask, is there anything wrong headed about using 37.5gr 4350 with Hornady 220 RN bullets for 1800 fps? No trial and error. Hornady 9th manual shows that as a middle load with 40gr as the max and 34.5gr as a safe min. I am looking at 100 yard shooting.

I...

Re: How to restore the stock finish or look ?
Question on the re-assembly. Is there a recommended torque on the two receiver bolts? I dont want to be over or under and risk a cracked stock. If it is not critical, I can use my calibrated right hand :)

Re: How to restore the stock finish or look ?

Looks a little darker and shiner. Much nicer.

I think you've found out that your stock has so much old oil and dirt that the wood cells are not porous anymore and won't soak in any more stain. If you put stain on wood like that, it will either just wipe off if its still wet or...
