I just checked the auction results on line. This set brought $4,112.50 (including the buyer's premium of 17.5%).

I looked them up in Col. Brophy's books on the Krag and the '03's. He doesn't mention number made, but that they were available at a regimental level. Try Michael Kokolus from Dushore, Pa. at gunstockduplicating.com , He usually sets up at the Allentown, Pa. shows. Many different stocks, I've seen him with Krags. Didn't look like they required too much work.

I saw one go for $600 once. Would I pay that, or even $400, probably not. One thing to consider is if you're into the carbine cheap enough (before the site) what does it matter? Compare your total investment, to what the retail value may be. The rest is irrelevant.

If it's just a clean crack, you should be able to glue it. Some of the epoxies available today are stronger then the original wood. Your Krag was made in 1894, and is a Model 1892 rifle. Most of these were rebuilt to Model 1896 configuration. Your stock was "sporterized" or cut down. Full stock infantry rifles didn't have band retaining springs. The later 1896 cartouche date may have been from the rebuild period, or th...
