Any recommendations for what manufactured ammo works best for a) target shooting and b) hunting deer?

I have a M1943 and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to work the safety on the rear of the bolt.

Can anyone help me out?

Is there an inexpensive way I can get a copy of Brohpy's "The Krag Rifle"? Amazon and other copies on-line seem to start around $165.
