Re: VFW / American Legion Krags

The only reason it even occurred to me to wonder is the number of times someone has told me of a Krag that "my uncle / father / neighbor got when he was in the VFW." I have even read the same thing on this forum. It might never have occurred to the seller that things were not strictly on t...

VFW / American Legion Krags

In the past many veterans' organizations obtained Krags from the government for use by parade honor guards etc. I understand that some of these rifles were given free and clear, but others were given as loans with the expectation that they would be given back if they were no longer being used. Even ...

Any opinions as to how this might affect the legality of owning or selling the rifle in question? If it is unnumbered it is impossible to say whether or not federal law classifies it as an antique. If it had a number which has been removed, it could mean big trouble. If the number was left off for s...

Re: U.S. Krag carbine barrel?

Many thanks - that is just the sort of information that I hoped for. I will take along a micrometer and loupe when I go to look at it, and will study the front sights on my infantry rifles to get an idea of what an arsenal job looks like.

U.S. Krag carbine barrel?

Soon I will get a chance to examine a loose carbine barrel which an acquaintance has for sale. I believe that it is a Krag carbine barrel, based on his description. However, I do not have a known original barrel to compare it to. Can anyone suggest clues I should look for? What sort of acceptance ma...
