Re: Clean Sized Brass After Firing

Yes, it is a good method for neck sizing, most of the time. As long as the chamber is not on the fat side. In that case it doesn’t work for me. I have a ’03 WW2 rebuild with a very fat chamber. In this case I have to use a neck size die, if the case was used for a full power load. Turning the die ou...

Re: powder question

4895 is a funny bird. It used to be there were 2 different 4895’s the IMR and the Hodgdon’s. If you are using older loading data you need to make sure it matches the powder you have, there was a difference in the charge weights. The same thing for 4831 and probably also for 4350. Now that Hodgdon ow...

Re: Annealing

Thank you Parashooter, your video did a better job of showing how I do this than my explination. Culpeper, you got it. That’s how my last batch of BCC brass looks. Now on this “SALT” process. Wikipedia lists a melting point of 633* and a decomposition point of 752* for potassium nitrate. I would not...

Re: Annealing

Opps forgot to add I do inside in lower light level. Probably wouldn't work if done outside in full light. Works well, have been doing for decades. I don't count the number of reloadings per case but I have a batch of LC 90 7.62 NATO cases that I would not be surprised if many of them have gone well...

Re: Annealing

To anneal brass I just use a leather glove, tin coffee can and propane torch set to pencil flame. I set the torch on the floor, do NOT POINT at smoke detector trust me DON'T :D . Hold case base with leather glove and place just the neck into the flame and rotate. As soon as the brass starts to show ...

Re: Who's still here??

I have been a lurker here for a long time before I joined. Took the Krag as a challenge it sat in the back of the closet for many years until it started working well for me. Still like the ‘03s, 40x and 45-70 better. But it is a lot of fun now that I convinced it to do what I want. Still remember th...

Re: Decent into Madness - Lack of Case Trimming

If you are trying to find what the overall length is for a particular bullet is may I suggest the Hornady OAL gauge. I resisted buying one for years but finally bought one this year, it works. Hornady doesn’t list the 30-40 or the 7.5x55 in the available cases but you can send $20 and 2 fired cases ...

Re: Fun With Animals

I love the black hole. Mine wasn’t so black, more black & tan and huge fangs. It was fun opening the door on a salesman. I taught her to smile, a big Rotty smile. I was never able to get a photo of the black hole that was under the electronics bench before I retired, drop a fiddly little compone...

Re: CCI Large Rifle BR-2 Primers

I did testing for myself over the years. A scoped Remington 40X in 7.62 NATO mostly with cast bullets. For me the CCI Bench rest primers were not worth the extra cost. The only premium primer that was worth the extra money is the Federal Gold Medal but I feel the Winchester is almost as good on the ...
