Target type for Krag sights at 100yds

What target size, pattern and color do you find to be most effective using Krag standard issue sights at 100yds? My 1898 rifle has a 1901 sight and so far I prefer aiming through the peep with the elevation bar verticle but haven't shot it at 100 yds yet which is the limit at my club's range.

Re: Chamber differences and tough to close bolt

<r>I just experienced this today to a similar degree. Shot the same low powered cast load for the first time in my 1898 original rifle and sporter with a new Criterion barrel and then full length sized the cases upon returning home and noticed half of them required an extra push at the bottom to res...

Re: Model 1898

<r>This assumes your Krag is now a cut down sporter and you are not trying to make it into an official configuration again. If you want to inexpensively clean up the muzzle end and install a sporting front sight you might look at cutting off the stepped portion, filing the muzzle flat and chamfering...

Re: 1898 Krags

If you are viewing your picture in Windows you can right click and RESIZE is one of the options that comes up. Choose SMALL and it asks if you want to save and then saves as a smaller copy of the original that works good on this forum.

Re: Common Sense Advise on Guns

Being from MA until the reference to the 1903 moose hunt this sounded as if it could have been filed yesterday by some crazy.

Thanks for the link. Enjoyed reading of shooting and sporting activities of that era and also the ads are very interesting.

Re: Mystery 'bolt mounted' peep-sight sells

<r>Certainly a unique sight but for all that went into it does it do much more than the simpler Rice sight? It appears to attach at the same point - the extractor bolt hole or rivet hole on later models - but requires the hockey stick-like projections on each side to keep it in line with the bore an...

1884 Trapdoor "Sporter"

<r>As mentioned in the 577 Snider thread the fellow I cleaned that rifle up for inherited a bunch of old firearms that had been sitting in a corner of his father's body shop for decades. One that cleaned up nicely was this M1884 SN# 542629 he gave me for my efforts put forth on the Snider. The barre...

Re: Question on sights!

Williams has an inexpensive receiver sight model for the Krag that mounts on the right side of the receiver. It is drill and tap but only if you want it to be. I had one on my sporter (see SN 456713 thread) I attached with JB Weld along for with a regular front sight base for 12 yrs. <br /><br />The...
