Re: What model is my Krag Jorgensen??

Elli , From the lack of markings I'd think it is probably Norwegian in 6.5 .US krags are marked US Springfield Armory with model #. Danes are also marked with the armory name and are 8 mm . Here's a site that may help.

Re: iii1898 kRAG

Are you sure it says Model ? Sounds like a Norwegian model 1894 which were stamped with the date of manufacture , serial # and crowned K ( for Kongsberg Arms Factory ).Your serial # would have been manufactured in 1898 , cartridge 6.5 x 55 .

Re: Krag sporter

I, for one , would hate to see it chopped any further .There does seem to be alot of guys out there interested in restoration, so might I suggest selling it as is and using the money to buy one already sporterized . Could make everybody happy .

On the left side of the receiver, over the side plate . Should be marked SPRINGFIELD ARMORY , either 1894 ,1895 , or Model #{1896 ,1898,or1899) and then serial # . A Norwegian Krag will have the info on top ,serial # on side , just ahead of the bolt opening. If none is present maybe you can look for...
