Peter,

Quite a story on this gun. You said you inherited it. I was just wondering, did it belong to a grandfather or someone like that?

You gave a fairly complete decription. It sounds to me like an 1896 rifle that has been cut down. Does it have a sling or sling swivels? Been sitting ...

Re: Windage adjustment with 96 sights ?
Terry,

To put in a higher front sight you don't have to knock off the whole front sight post. You can get replacement front sight blades. I know S&S has them. Then you just knock out the little pin that holds it in place and put in the new blade ( and then put the pin back in ). Then, wit...

Re: rear sight screw spacing same on all models ?
Eric,

Yes, the holes are all spaced the same so the sights are interchangable. The screws are different lengths on some of them depending on the base. So you need to keep the screws with the proper sights. The handguards are matched to the model of sight.

Regards,

Tom
[glb]<s...

Re: 8X58RD ?
I got my dies from CH4D, excellent quality. They do cost a bit more than normal though. I got brass from Buffalo Arms. They reform it from 45-70 brass. All works well and we have a load that shoots quite well in my Danish Krags, long rifles and carbines. What kind of gun are you loading for?

...

Re: Krag cartouche
What you mention is kind of along the lines I was thinking. I forwarded your photos to my brother for input and he mentioned that maybe the gun was used during WWI and/or WWII by the home guard. Thus the rondel with crossed canons. He threw out that maybe the CA stood for Coastal Artillery. Just a t...
