Wood cleaning

Have a quick question. I have a Krag 1898 rifle and an 1899 carbine. The rifle is dirty/ grimy from long term storage in a basement. The carbine appears to have had a varnish applied over the finish. What would be the proper way to clean both of these? I already know, no sandpaper!

Krags issued to banks

Last Sat, I bought an 1898 Krag rifle from an estate auction. I was informed yesterday that it came from our community bank. As I was told, it was issued to the bank during the depression. Has anyone ever heard of this?

1898 Krag info wanted

Good morning! Yesterday, at an estate auction, I bought an 1898 Krag # 189227. It has a
n 1899 cartouche. It has cosmoline in it, and what I believe to be the original sling. I'll try to get pics up later. Any idea where this rifle may have been sent after manufacturing?
