Krag Finds in Gun Show Today
Went to a gun show in Belleville, IL (south-western IL, just across the river from St Louis) this morning, saw 2 Krags from the same dealer, both overpriced in my opinion. Both 1898's, one oriiginal, very nice $1100, the other not quite as nice, but close, a cut-down rifle, $850. Both well above my ...

Soldiers with Krags
<r>Came across this photo at an antique store Near Carterville IL yesterday. Original was about 18 x 14. Looks like mostly 1892's?<s>[img]</s><URL url="https://kragcollectorsassocia...

Re: Stock Modifications
Thanks for the reply and photos - answers my question completely! I enjoy a challenge and doing the work.

I judged original Corvettes at a national level for many years and understand the importance of not messing with originality.

Do it right, do it with class...

Th...

Stock Modifications
What is involved in modifying an 1898 stock to fit on an 1896? It appears that the major difference is in the bolt handle area. Is this alteration even possible? Were the later stocks arsenal modified to fit the earlier rifles back in the day?

It seems the later stocks are easier to find....

Patent Information
Anyone have a copy of the text pages for the patent of the O. H. J. Krag & E. Jorgensen "Magazine Gun"? It is Patent Number 492,212 dated Feb. 21, 1893. I have the diagram on sheet 1 from the USPO, but do not have the 2 pages of text.
Thanks,

Re: Krag Carbine Stock on eBay
Well, if one wants to buy and re-sell for a profit, one should buy a quality item to start with. This one has too many issues and too high a price!

Krag Carbine Stock on eBay
Has anyone seen the "U.S. Springfield Krag Carbine Stock" on eBay. Just posted yesterday I think. It has a forend with provisions for a band but is obviously shorter than standard. Is this a stock for one of the Philippine rifles or a cadet rifle or....? Photos are not the best quality so ...

Re: New to Krag Rifles with Questions
Thanks very much for the information.

The bore is good, bright, sharp lands.

The stock was shortened to accommodate a commercial recoil pad and yet maintain LOP. Actually the pad showed signs of age (i.e. ugly) and the LOP was too much for me (14" +) so I removed it and f...

Re: New to Krag Rifles with Questions
Thanks for the comments! The barrel appears to be original and is 30" long. The front sight base also appears to be original, brazed on, shows no signs of tampering. I measured the full length of the blade as installed and it is 13/32" which translates to 0.406" approximately. I have ...
