Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs

The V max bullets used to fit that way in my rifle, and they shot really good that way. I can relate in .223 too, last time I was at Perry I shot the Modern Military with a new AR. I had some 60gr V max loads that I'd previously loaded to max magazine length. In the new rifle I think I was sticking ...

Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs

That FTX with it's short ogive looks like one ought to be able to seat it out long enough to be in the throat. Whether or not that's a real advantage I couldn't say without testing. I'm not buying any yet, so I'll have to rely on you all for results.

Re: Drama Free Day at the Range

I thought those M2's would work well. Wish I could find a few thousand!

Re: Trust Your Nose!

CCi #34 or any magnum primer might light the powder better. #34s are Nato primers and most Nato countries are loading with ball powders now a days. I had problems with ball powders (760 and 2700) not burning completely in my Garand, they'd fall into the chamber on ejection and dent up subsequent cas...

Re: Price of bullets rant

Mike4msu, are those the steel jacketed Hornady's? I sold some to Paul once, I didn't know they'd attract a magnet. Their dangerous game bullet.

Re: Price of bullets rant

I've been ranting some myself after looking around at what's available and the prices. But I'll be moving soon to a place with a garage. I have a decent amount of alloy and a variety of molds. Lots of other makings too.

Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs

I really hadn't looked at the Hornady 125s lately BR. Interesting new (to me) profile on product 30192. That's very close to what I swaged the HP profile of some 140gr Nosler match bullets down to in order to make them a bit more Krag friendly up the feed ramp. I used a Lyman 329 top punch. Those Ho...

Re: Damaged Receiver

I've got one broke like that. It looked to me like a machinist that knew what he what was doing could enlarge it, maybe fit a brass bearing in the right place, but maybe not. It'd be a good for a 2rd conversion.

Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs

They fed through my 92/96 rifles set at an OAL of 3.10". Pretty good actually. That didn't leave a whole lot of the bullet shank in the case mouth. When I started shooting the BD loads the ogives were touching the rifling in the throat of the rifle I was using, one with what appeared to be an p...

Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs

I've got some good groups with Hornady's .310 diameter 123gr V-max bullet. Good enough that I shot them at Camp Perry once with a load that was maybe producing around 2500fps. I need to experiment more with them, the data above will help as I see some powders that I have on hand. The load I used at ...
