Re: Scout Scope Mount

Looks good. Ocular bell right where it's needed. Some of the pistol scopes I have tried have to be really out there. Then there's the ones called Intermediate Eye Relief, like one old Redfield I tried. It would be over the receiver. Must be nice to have the skills and tools needed.

Re: U.S. patent on Krag-Jorgensen Cartridge Holders

I'm not quite seeing what's supposed to happen, how do you get then out. Maybe squeeze it so that that dimples no longer contact the case and the rounds fall out?

Re: Neck Sizing

I use a 7.5x55 Swiss Lee Collet Die with a washer between it and shellholder to neck size 30-40 mostly. Since one doesn't have to squeeze the neck all the way down to to the mandrel I can adjust the die to the ID I want. The die doesn't size the whole neck down to the shoulder, about 2/3. Whether or...

Re: 126yr old scout rifle

It's a very worn and broken handguard Fred. It's worn enough that it goes well with the much sanded stock. But looking at the pics above, what's a 92 handguard gonna add but looks. I mean a person isn't going to be touching the barrel anyway with the scope sitting up there! It'd be a use for the poo...

Re: 126yr old scout rifle

I like the long mount. I sold the one Peter at Kraghaus gave me to Paul Steinmeyer. Since I already have two extra holes, I'll go with the short one. This scope is real light, and I been looking at even smaller lighter options. And, I like the idea of that much worn old 92 handguard.

Re: AA 2520 Powder

Hey I just saw a recall notice on AA2520! Let me see, here it is, it was over a year ago. Western Powders is issuing a recall of Accurate 2520 1 lb. bottles with lot number 0913192116. The lot number is stamped on the back of the bottle. ... If you are in possession of this propellant, please discon...

Re: 126yr old scout rifle

No I wouldn't remove the front sight. I have a bolt with a Rice peep sight and I think I still have a Redfield no drill rear sight somewhere. They'd be backup in case something went south on the scope or if I simply wanted to remove it. The front sight would come off easily however, it is just swagg...

Re: Krag Cast bullets in the 21st century

The last of the bullets that weighed 203gr that I shot was during my experiments with the boosted 860 and 150grFMJBTs. They were going quite fast, maybe as fast as 2300fps, but I didn't get any lead blow back on the case neck like I was getting trying to get to 2100fps with regular powders. RL19 and...

Re: Krag Cast bullets in the 21st century

Hey Fred, that is some interesting reading. It'll be awhile before the issue becomes part of the bed elevator. I found the Palma article interesting too. One year I tried duplicating the 1907 Palma load with a cast spitzer that just happened to weigh the same. It didn't work out, but I've a few othe...

Re: Help with accuracy

I get close to that magazine hold in prone, in fact thought about trying it but realized that meant moving my support hand before I could open the magazine. That'd ruin my "load without taking the rifle off your shoulder" move! I understand you're talking off the bench though. I got some r...
