Re: Replacement Front Sight

Gentlemen, the operation was a success and the patient is currently resting... Definitely had the shorter front sight on it originally. This new one from S&S is .413 per their customer service. Hopefully this will solve my issues (besides the unfixable problem of the guy pulling the trigger). ht...

Re: Replacement Front Sight

I'm going to semi-hijack my own thread here...

I assume I have a rifle type rear sight (Just getting paranoid).

Does anyone know what this symbol is? It looks like an "8" or is it an "R" signifying a rifle calibrated rear sight?

Re: Replacement Front Sight

I hadn’t removed it yet don’t want to loose the pin. If it’s mushroomed on the left won’t I need to punch it out r to l?

When I got my rifle it was equipped with an 1896 sight so I suspect that it has the shorter front sight.

Replacement Front Sight

Afternoon Everyone! Finally got my krag out to the range with 220gr reloads and it shoots UBER high. I saw S&S sells replacement blades. Anyone have experience with these and replacing front sight blades? I assume I may need to file the replacement blade down to get it right. Is there a certain ...

Re: Show me a nice stock Cartouche

Here is a nice [J.S.A. 1903] cartouche that 'Whig' brought to our attention back in March, 2020. It was the model 1899 carbine, #429596, that was presented to General Frederick Dent Grant in 1903 or later. It was sold, along with other Grant family items, by the Rock Island Auction Company. (Appare...

Re: Matte vs Polished

In my opinion, rust can be solved quite easily by boiling or steaming parts and then lightly scrubbing them with 0000 steel wool, this won't remove finish but will convert the rust into rust blue, like BR said finishes are complicated on the Krag but "patina" is often just oiled rust, and...

Re: Show me a nice stock Cartouche

Since all my Krag books are boxed up in storage maybe y'all can help me out. The only two markings on my Krag stock are "34" above a "P" on the underside of the wrist.

Re: Matte vs Polished

I like that idea! I was originally thinking of a couple layers of tape. It also looks like that little metal tit that holds it back is a bit worn or recessed so I was thinking of seeing if I could tap it out a little bit.
