Re: 91 argie.....again

That's a great find as long as it's not shot out.
What is the barrel length on that thing?

Rifle versus Carbine velocities.

I've been running 36.6 grains of IMR 4064 behind various 180 grain SPRN, Interlock, and spitzer projectiles. For the most part, my velocity runs in the 2050 - 2075 range with a 24" barrel (the exception being Barnes solids, which ran 100 fps faster, and I stopped using them after 4 rounds). The...

Re: Load Suggestions

I replaced the Lyman front sight a long time ago. Even the new, shorter one that I had ground down, drilled and pinned by a gunsmith after laser bore sighting) is hammering 3-4" low at 50 yards. I think I need to have him take another crack at it, because the front sight post is also slightly l...

Re: Load Suggestions

The cross compatibility knowledge is a great help, thank you. The nice thing about this last range trip was determining that my rifle really doesn't care what bullet profile I feed it. They all chambered easily, with no snags. My rifle didn't come with a handguard, so I'm not going to worry about ma...

Re: Load Suggestions + Sight windage issue

Kind of a resurrected dead thread, but I'm confused about a range trip yesterday. Background is this: I was having a hard time over the past year dialing in an accurate load. Really hard to do now that SPNR bullets are hard to come by. So, I bought a "lot" from GunBroker, and loaded up wha...

Re: Load Suggestions

I don't suppose you have a velocity reading for that load? Hornady manuals are extremely conservative with the Krag, 180gr projectiles. 10th edition states maximum charge is 35.1gr with a 2100 fps velocity for H4895. Now. . . in an apples to apples comparison, the Hornady manual states that IMR 4064...

Hi Mike,
Is this a modern rifle load, or an antique load?

Re: Long Road from last December

I have not slugged the bore.
I'm also not planning on adding another powder.
I have IMR 4064, Varget, and H4895.
Those powder are all cross compatible with my .308 & .223 rifles, so one of them will become my Krag powder.

Re: Long Road from last December

I do not hunt, my goal is best possible accuracy. I was able to develop a 1.5 MOA load for my Mini 30 with Hornady 123gr SST's & H4198, and my 52gr Sierra HPBT matchking Mini 14 handloads are getting close to MOA with Varget, and 1.5 MOA with 52gr Hornady's & H4895. The Krag is still a new p...

Long Road from last December

Hi all, last year I came onboard looking for a replacement stock. Got it, installed it, and began handloading. I learned that my rifle had a Lyman sight system, and figured out why the previous owner sold the gun. The stupid thing was shooting 1' low at 50 yards even at maximum sight adjustment. (I ...
