Growing up in the south, its safe to assume I knew some families that once profited from slavery.
Some of the poorest families Ive ever known were from back home.
If today a family is dirt poor, but 160 years ago they were filthy rich, if they do owe, how can they pay?

Re: Chafee Reese - Magazine Rifle Trials
Thanks guys!

Yes, I believe the buyer did get a good deal. If I can make more than double my purchase price in profit and the buyer still feels like they got a good deal, that sounds great to me.

This keeps everyone out there on the hunt and energized to share in our hobby!<br ...

Re: Chafee Reese - Magazine Rifle Trials
Hey all,

This auction finally happened this past weekend. It was delayed for a long time due to COVID.
Maybe not the greatest time to sell a rare firearm like this but that's the way the hand was dealt.

This sold for $2,000. Fees were 18 or 20% so I'll come away with about...

James Howe Talking About a Rifle - A Letter
<r>I posted this over at Milsurps. Thought you guys might be interested as well since he did some Krags.

I won this letter in an auction recently. It came in a lot with a few other knick-knacks and thankfully for me it was just listed as "letter." Not much competition on this on...

Re: Mystery 'bolt mounted' peep-sight sells
I got outbid at $440, I think.
It would have looked nice with my 1903 Sporters.
I wouldnt call this a sporter exactly but a nicely done sporterized rifle.
Even without the sight Id like, but that sight is too cool. I may one day regret not bidding more haha.

Re: Opinions About Auctions
To add an extra wrinkle to the Charles Burch auction story, I bid on those items in the original estate auction. Unsuccessfully. After I was done bidding and ran across them on eBay, I decided to share.
A bit self serving? Maybe. But it was interesting information I felt was important to share....

Somewhere in the $125 range. I sold one early last year.
Id wager the necks are split. I sold one and kept another that was opened up. Every last case had a split neck.

These old guns are much stronger than theyre given credit for.
Referring to Mr. Petrov again, apparently the Trapdoor took so much abuse before detonating he would never publish the data!! Sure would love to see those numbers just for scientific curiosity.

I have my FFL and buy and sell as a side business (day job is in manufacturing).
I buy almost exclusively from online auctions.
I bought over 100 firearms last year from probably 40 or so different auction houses.

Frankly, youd be surprised how FEW problems Ive had.
