Re: 1899 Carbine?

Do you happen to know the dimensions of the sight blade?
I work with tools and do a bit of gunsmith work, so I think
it wouldn't be to hard to make one. Thanks.

Re: 1899 Carbine?

Thank you sir.... You are a wealth of information. I thought the front sight might not be right. I've been on here before in 2018 when I bought a "real" 1898 carbine, and came here for verification. I sent many pics of it to the forum, and was finely told I had the real deal. I will see if...

1899 Carbine?

Hi Guys... I just bought a 1899 carbine that is in very nice shape. The bore is great.
No cartouche on the stock that I can see. The front sight blade has a E stamped on
the right side. (WTH)? Serial no. is 2798xx. I'll try to post pics later after my camera
battery charges.

Re: Any Birth Year Firearms?

I bought a Remington 1903 from the CMP a few years ago that has my month and year
of birth on the barrel. (7-42) I thought that was pretty cool and I bought It post hast.

Re: Lead removal

Just make sure it's copper and not steel with a copper plating.
Use a magnet to be sure. It really is the best way to remove
lead. The trick in shooting cast bullets is to make sure the
bullets are the same size as the throats (exit holes) in the
cylinder.

Re: Picked up a new toy

I have several SMLE rifles and shoot cast bullets in them. A load of 16 grains of 2400 and 200 grain cast bullet will hit a 10" steel at 200 yards off the bench all day long. Slugging the barrel on a enfield is quit a trick, being they have a 5 groove barrel. If your barrel is as good as you sa...

Re: Krag 1899 Oiler and Cleaning Rods

Didn't the carbines only have 2 cleaning rods? The oiler goes in first
and lays in the small hollow, then the rods go in. The rods have to
removed before you can remove the oiler.
