Re: 30-40 Gallery Hand Loads?

Waterman here with some recollections and caveats from geezerdom: 1: Mattern was written in the 1930s. Powders then are not the same as present day powders, even tho some of the names are the same. Today's 2400 is faster and gives higher pressures quicker than the Hercules stuff. There are forums wh...

Re: Facebook Krags

If the thing exists (Photoshop creation?), is the creator in violation of the National Firearms Act? A 96 action makes it an antique, but it is still a cut-down rifle. OTOH, back in the 30s, Krags were rebarreled to less powerful cartridges and the magazine still worked (+/-). My late friend barrell...

Re: Another eBay mystery?

I saw this safety-lever recently for sale on eBay. It was listed as a Krag safety, but it is not. The shaft is too large in diameter and the "OFF" & "READY" markings are not found on Krag safeties. The 'tip' of the shaft is not correct. It kind of appears to be a 1903 Spring...

Re: .32 ACP?

Are we talking a chamber adapter here? That would be nice to have if so. Like this I just found? ChamAdpt.jpg Yes, that is one. They were relatively common for many calibers from about 1900 up to WW2. I have (or had) one in .303 Savage. My Holy Grail search is to find one in .30/40 Krag used by the...

.32 ACP?

On the IAA cartridge collectors site, there was a discussion concerning very early .32 ACP cartridges (1898 to about 1910). Reference was made to a Krag supplemental chamber marked "A.C.", implying that someone could shoot .32 ACP cartridges in a Krag. That should work OK, the .32 ACP bein...

Re: 7.5x55 Swiss - A study in brass

If you trim a case to a desired length with the RCBS trimmer and then use the same case in the Giraud trimmer, will more brass be removed?

Re: Krag Bolt Failure

I cracked the bolt on my Bannerman M 1896 when using a load recommended in Ken Waters "Pet Loads" book. If you have headspace issues, it is pretty easy to do.
