Re: Amoskeag Auction

I went back to the Timed Auction pages, all the Lot #s 2000 and up. #2002 was an 1896 rifle, went for $1200. #2024 was an 1898 rifle. Sight was wrong, but the barrel was excellent. $720. That buyer did OK. #2047 was another 1898 rifle, not as good as #2024. $720. #2048 was a 92/96 rifle with a 1894 ...

Re: Interesting Florida Gun Shop

There is a lot of specialized collector interest in rifles made on that machinery. I've always wanted an Axel Peterson single shot barrel on a Winchester or Ballard action, esp. a .22 Long Rifle. If not that, a .32/40.

Re: Amoskeag Auction

After you pay for shipping, plus some sort of fees to the auction house, do you realize a profit when you sell? And then you factor in inflation. I looked at everything of interest to me (not modern pistols, AK or AR-based junk, or shotguns, or just ordinary ho-hum stuff). A rancher friend died a fe...

Re: Amoskeag Auction

There are two auction sites. For the higher numbered items (2000+), you have to go to the timed auction. You have to go back to the auction home page and click on the timed auction symbol.

Re: Something You Can't Unsee

I agree that the present administration is not good for the country I was born in and where I've lived for the last 83 years. I view them as Negro-Socialists, intent upon turning our country into another third-world shithole and destroying the white culture that built our country. But I see our cond...

Re: Stevens - Pope Barrels

The Stevens-Pope barrel was made to work with the regular extractor for .30/40 Krag ammunition. The GPR had an entirely different extractor system, plus a "trip pin" installed in the rear part of the bolt raceway. Would a S-P barrel even function with a GPR action? My thoughts would be &qu...

Re: Stevens - Pope Barrels

No. Stevens-Pope barrels were never installed on GPR rifles. The S-P barrels were made starting about 1900-1902 (going by memory, there are many discussions on this forum). They were sold commercially and were purchased by National Guard units in Ohio, PA, NJ & Washington DC. Those units convert...

Re: Binge Watching

I've read a couple of reports on modern tests of Baker rifles. Not all that much of an improvement over a smoothbore with properly fitted round balls.
