Re: Lyman 57k
Does anyone make apertures for the Pacific? I would like a somewhat tighter one than what I have now.

Re: Lyman 57k
Thanks for the information. I have a Pacific like the one on the far left of your photo. I'll just learn to stick with that. I would like a little greater capability for windage adjustability and repeatable elevations. But this will do.
Thanks again,
Brent

Lyman 57k
Is the Lyman 57 for Krags a "no-drill" sight like the Pacific?
I have a sporter that I would like to fit with a 57 but I don't know how they attach and I do not want to drill my rifle at this point.
Thanks,
Brent

Re: Interior barrel dimensions
Well, after pulling the stock, I found that indeed, the "P" is there, the witness marks are there on both barrel and receiver though a bit dim to be sure, and then when I get the barrel in just the right light I can see the welded over screw holes for the rear sight. Yes, it has to be the ...

Re: Interior barrel dimensions
Many, Many Thanks!!!!

These are excellent photos and descriptions of what to look for. I will be checking my rifle tonight. I am confident that I will have a definitive answer shortly.

As a person with lots of experience with blackpowder muzzleloaders and BP cartridge rifles,...

Re: Interior barrel dimensions
I'll pull the stock again but I think the only marks are a "P" but I might be misremembering.

Re: Interior barrel dimensions
Thanks, that pretty much settles it as a nonoriginal barrel. Mine is 26" and there is no way it could have been shortened from the rear and had both of those screw holes cut off. If they were welded over, I think I would still see one them by looking closely, and I don't. I'll measure the exter...

Re: Interior barrel dimensions
I suspect the exterior has been turned down so I don't know that the contour would tell much.

There are only two holes visible on the barrel where the rear sight would have been They are now occupied by a different sight

<IMG src="http://pics.gunbroker.com/GB/450047000/4500476...

Interior barrel dimensions
My Krag sporter has a 26" barrel and I'm wondering if it started life as an original barrel, or if it is a replacement barrel. The barrel seems to measure 0.309" in the grooves a the muzzle and 0.300 or maybe a little more across the lands.

There are 4 grooves that are about 3x...

Now THAT is cool. I know Steve does special stuff, including blocks but I didn't know he did stuff like that.
