Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs
Hey - good copy on all the additional information! I loaded the 160 FTX exactly as you recommended Kerz (2.980"), it's just the first time I've had a cannalure that far up and out of the "crimp area" (Porter term). Also, my 30-40 Krag Loadbooks USA just arrived today so I've got anoth...

Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs
Also, spending some time here researching the discussions involving IMR 3031, I think the loads I'll work up for the H 160grn FTX will be 34 grains, 35 grains, and 36 grains. I'll certainly post a range report!

Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs
Kerz, Thanks! Just to confirm you had the C.O.L. at 2.980"? I did notice the cannelure on the H 160grn FTX is quite a bit higher on the bullet requiring a deeper seating. Comparing the 30-40 Krag cartridge with a 30-30 Winchester cartridge (which the H 160 FTX is listed as a bullet for) the Kra...

Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs
So I did two loads this week with the Hornady 125grn HP (#30192) using IMR 3031 at 36.4 grains and 37 grains with a C.O.L. of 3.06". The C.O.L. that had been recommended (not sure where I saw this) was 3.03". But 3.06" is right in the middle of the cannelure and is well within the ove...

Re: Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs
Outstanding! Thank you for the information and recommendations. I do plan to load these on the lighter side. After I work up some loads and shoot them, I'll post a range report. Hoping to work these out to a good grouping at 100yds.

Hand Loading Hornady 125 grn HPs
Good morning, I just ordered some Hornady 125grn HPs to hand load in addition to 150grn SPs. I found some great load data recommendations on the forum from using IMR 3031 (my primary rifle powder) with the 150's. Any recommendations for the 125's? I'll follow the loading table recommendations in the...

This 1911 Came w/ My Dad's Krag!
My dad also passed to me his 1944-45 Colt Gov't model and I finally got it out to the range this week. At some point, I believe, the US markings were removed and the pistol was sold as it has a non-Colt serial number and markings on the right side. So it's a shooter. No problem there, I have several...

Re: Anyone Frequent Gunboards Forum?
I'm a member and sometime contributor to the 1911 Forum (just got my dad's 1944 1911 Colt Gov't model and posted some pics there) and they just did a whole board update. I'm still getting used to it, but it's got lots of pop-up adds which make me feel like I'm on a public facing news sight. I far pr...

Range Report!
Good morning! I had an outstanding range day yesterday and got the Krag sighted in at 25yds. I used a .050" peep sight to get on target and started out with factory ammo, Win 180 X-Super (some old stuff my dad had). After I was zeroed in at one inch above point of aim, I ran through the hand lo...

Re: Just Joined the Forum!
BR - I just ordered two peep apertures from Midway. Much to my surprise, Midway had them in stock. (I never have very good luck with Midway.) One aperture is a .050" hole and the other is a .093" hole. I figured they were $8 and $9 respectively, so I'll try them both and they'll be here be...
