Re: Help Me Know What I Found
"Butlersrangers" Thanks for all the great information. Thanks for the heads up on the bayonet it was just in the picture. I really like my Krag. I get side tracked by my civil war rimfire carbines. They are fun/challenging projects to reload for but for shear pleasure out comes the Krag. N...

Help Me Know What I Found
Help Me Know What I Found Cleaning up what is left of my Dad's firearms stuff. Dad passed away more than 10 years ago. I found a Krag stock and a bayonet. In the picture is my Krag Carbine (1899). I really enjoy shooting it. Its a great firearm. The only problem is the stock has been sanded and civi...

Re: Krag 1899 Oiler and Cleaning Rods
I definitely have the wrong oiler. I will have to get the right one.

Re: Krag 1899 Oiler and Cleaning Rods
That is much smaller than what I have. So that makes sense why it doesn't fit. Mine is 3/4" in diameter by 5" long. But is only and oiler, no compartment for a cleaning brush and cord. I thought that it would hold a lot of oil for just one rifle. So the other hole bored into the stock behi...

Re: Krag 1899 Oiler and Cleaning Rods
Maybe I don't have the right oiler. Mine looks like the oiler that is in 1903, 1917, M1-Garand. If I look at liberty tree collectors' pictures it looks smaller than mine. So I might/must have the wrong one.

Re: Krag 1899 Oiler and Cleaning Rods
The barrel is 22" long. The muzzle is in the right diameter range.
The stock has been sanded so no acceptance stamp. The stock also had additional sling swivels which have been plugged and refinished.
There have been some refinishing, but it looks like slow rust bluing not cold bluing.

Re: Krag 1899 Oiler and Cleaning Rods
I can post photos but I better harden my resolve first.
I imagine it to be perfect, but after review it might be called a Frankenkrag or a Kragenstein.
I don't want to go to therapy over this

Krag 1899 Oiler and Cleaning Rods
I have a a 1899 Model Krag, as per the receiver.
In the the buttstock there is the three cleaning rods. It also has an oiler. But to put the oiler in you have to remove the buttplate. Seems odd.
Is that the way it is supposed to be?
Thanks in advance for any information.
